Jorgenson named professor of Christian theology at Campbell

Cameron Jorgenson, a Ph. D. candidate in theology at Baylor University, has been named assistant professor of Christian theology at the Campbell University Divinity School.”Cameron Jorgenson has distinguished himself among his peers as a teacher and scholar of great ability and promise,” said Dr. Barry Jones, associate dean. “He sees theology as a joyful pursuit that bridges both the treasures of the ancient church and the everyday world of contemporary culture. His great desire is to help students to fulfill the biblical call to ‘grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.'”Jorgenson said he was honored to join the Divinity School faculty.”Not only is Campbell doing an excellent job of preparing women and men for service in the church, but it is a warm and loving community,” he said. Ministers are ‘resident theologians’ that inevitably shape a congregation’s understanding of the gospel and the nature of the Christian life,” added Jorgenson. “Being a theologian is not optional. Being a good theologian, however, takes training. It is my goal that students walk away from their theology coursework grounded in the essential doctrines of the faith, equipped to ask good questions, prepared to read texts carefully and committed to engage in theological dialogue charitably.” Prior to going to Baylor University, Waco, Texas, for his Doctor of Philosophy degree with a concentration in theology, Jorgenson graduated from the Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Ariz., with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, Ca.., with a Master of Divinity degree.Jorgenson, who calls Phoenix home, has been a teaching fellow at Baylor for three years.
