RALEIGH, N.C. – The Campbell Law School chapter of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity has presented The Honorable Linda McGee of the North Carolina Court of Appeals with the Judge Robinson O. Everett Award for Legal Excellence. Judge McGee received the award at the annual Judge Robinson O. Everett Awards Gala and Professionalism Dinner at the City Club in downtown Raleigh on Nov. 16.

Chief Judge McGee has served as a judge on the N.C. Court of Appeals for more than 20 years and was named Chief Judge in August 2014. She is the second woman to serve as Chief Judge and the longest-serving woman in the court’s history.
Judge McGee received both her undergraduate degree and her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and began her career serving as the first executive director of the N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers. She later joined the law firm of di Santi, Watson and McGee in Boone, N.C., and practiced there as a partner for 17 years. She was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1995 by Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. and has been elected in three successful statewide judicial campaigns.
She is an Emeritus Member of the NC Board of Law Examiners and a past Board Member of IOLTA. She has been actively involved in the North Carolina Bar Association, having served on many committees either as a member or chair, including Lawyers in Schools and the Board of Governors. Judge McGee is a founding member of the N.C. Association of Women Attorneys and led in creating its Judicial Division and the Women Judges Forum programs presented at law schools. She presently serves on the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism and the N.C. Commission on the Administration of Law and Justice.
Judge McGee has been honored by receiving the N.C. Bar Association Pro Bono Service Award, the Judge of the Year Award and the Gwyneth B. Davis Service Award from the N.C. Association of Women Attorneys, and the Outstanding Appellate Judge Award from the N.C. Advocates for Justice. She also received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Western NC Chapter of ABOTA. This fall, Judge McGee was recognized for her service as a founding member of the Chief Justice’s Equal Access to Justice Commission.
The R.C. Bryan Senate of Delta Theta Phi was founded at Campbell Law in 1979 and serves as the fraternity’s International Headquarters. Campbell Law’s R.C. Bryan Senate was selected as the nation’s most Outstanding Student Senate for 2009-2010.
