Justice Hudson receives Everett Award from Delta Theta Phi

RALEIGH – The Campbell Law School chapter of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity has presented The Honorable Robin E. Hudson of the Supreme Court of North Carolina with the Judge Robinson O. Everett Award for Legal Excellence. Justice Hudson received the award at the annual Judge Robinson O. Everett Awards Gala and Professionalism Dinner at the City Club in downtown Raleigh on Nov. 1.

Justice Hudson has served on the Supreme Court of North Carolina since January 2007. Prior to this role, she sat on the North Carolina Court of Appeals from January 2001 through December 2006. She is the first woman in North Carolina elected to either appellate court without first being appointed. In 2004, she received the Outstanding Appellate Judge Award from the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, and was selected as a 2006 recipient of the General Federation of Women’s Club’s “Women of Achievement” Award. In October 2008, she was awarded the Gwyneth B. Davis Award from the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.

Justice Hudson graduated from Page High School in Greensboro, earned her undergraduate degree at Yale University in 1973, and obtained her J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law in 1976. She was admitted to the North Carolina Bar in 1976 and practiced law out of Raleigh and Durham until her election to the N.C. Court of Appeals. Her practice concentrated on workers’ compensation, and civil and criminal litigation, and included numerous appeals.

Justice Hudson was a member of the steering committee that founded the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys in 1978. She has served on the Family Court Advisory Committee for the North Carolina court system since 2001, is a member of the American Business Women’s Association, the Board of the Women’s Forum of North Carolina, and a vice-president of the 12,000 member North Carolina Bar Association. She is also a member of the downtown Raleigh Rotary Club.

The R.C. Bryan Senate of Delta Theta Phi was founded at Campbell Law in 1979 and serves as the fraternity’s International Headquarters. Campbell Law’s R.C. Bryan Senate was selected as the nation’s most Outstanding Student Senate for 2009-10.
