K&L Gates to sponsor moot court team

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard announced today that K&L Gates has offered a gift to the law school to support a moot court competition team. The firm’s gift will provide financial assistance to a group of Campbell Law students competing in the American Bar Association (ABA) Negotiation Competition.

The regional competition is slated for Nov. 8-9, while the national competition will be held Feb. 6-7, 2015 in Houston, Texas.

“We appreciate this fine gift by K&L Gates,” said Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard. “This is a great opportunity for our students to compete, both regionally and nationally, against the best student advocates in the country, and our students certainly belong in that group. K&L Gates makes this possible.”

The ABA Law Student Division Negotiation Competition is designed to promote interest among law students in legal negotiation. This competition provides a forum for students to improve their negotiating skills through simulations of a series of legal problems. The simulations include a common set of facts for all students to work from as well as confidential information known only to the students representing a particular side of the negotiation. As students advance in the competition, the negotiation situation varies at each round, meaning no two negotiations are the same. Students must negotiate under time constraints and in an area of law they may be unfamiliar with. This competition promotes development of the student’s communication skills and ability to quickly assess the needs and interests of their client and adversary.

K&L Gates comprises more than 2,000 lawyers globally who practice in fully integrated offices located on five continents. The firm represents leading multinational corporations, growth and middle-market companies, capital markets participants and entrepreneurs in every major industry group as well as public sector entities, educational institutions, philanthropic organizations and individuals.
