Buies Creek – Female students, staff and members of the community gathered inside Campbell University’s football fieldhouse to get a first hand lesson in Football 101. The first annual Campbell Football Ladies Clinic was held Monday, April 13.
Led by Coach Dale Steele and his team of experienced coaches, the clinic was designed to provide an opportunity for women to learn more about the game — from the purpose of the uniform to scoring rules to the lines on the field.
While participants received lessons in football terms, positions and history, they also got a chance to take part in some fun-filled exercises and raffles.
Coach Steele says the clinic was a chance to reach out to the community and develop new fans of the Campbell football program.
“I was at a basketball game and some ladies approached me about hosting a football clinic,” said Steele. “This is a great opportunity to teach them about the basics of football, how the game flows and hopefully encourage more participation.”
Students were eager to learn from the experts about Campbell’s newest athletic addition.
“I watch football, but I really wanted to understand the game a bit better,” said sophomore Brittani Ezuma.
Classmate Melissa Scally had another goal in mind.
“I came to learn how to play. I want to be able to take my boyfriend down on the field,” she said.
These fans can put their new knowledge to the test on Saturday, April 18 when the Camels will host the Orange-Black Scrimmage game at 2 p.m.
