BUIES CREEK, North Carolina – Landen Green, 2nd Year medical student, was named CUSOM’s Student DO of the Year.
The Student DO of the Year (SDOY) award honors and recognizes an osteopathic medical student who is committed to the principles of leadership, community service, dedication, and professionalism.
Each school hosts their own individual selection process to choose a student who has made outstanding contributions to the osteopathic profession. Each school then sends their nomination to the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents National Selection Committee, and Green was the 2016 nominee from the medical school at Campbell.
Student Doctor Green has served as Vice-President of the Sports Medicine club, he volunteers in the student-run free clinic as a health and wellness coach counseling community patients in obtaining healthier physical and mental habits, and he has served on two medical mission trips to Jamaica. Additionally, he serves as a student ambassador visiting college campuses promoting CUSOM and osteopathic medical education.
“Landen is a remarkable student doctor who has many accomplishments in his first two years at CUSOM,” said Brett Prestia, SGA treasurer and Student DO of the Year Committee member. “At every level Landen is seen as someone who leads by example and encourages others to seek their full potential. Perhaps what makes Landen most inspiring is he how he humbly carries himself. Landen is one of the most generous, sincere, and honest individuals we have had the pleasure of meeting. Our committee picked Landen not because of his current impressive accolades, but because he represents the perfect role model for what CUSOM and Osteopathy in general strives to be—someone who is genuinely dedicated to healing the mind, body, and spirit of everyone he meets.”
