Laurinburg pharmacist honored by Campbell University

Buies Creek–Dr. James Edward “Ed” Herring, Jr., owner and manager of Medical Village Pharmacy in Laurinburg, was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Campbell University at the 2007 Homecoming event on Saturday, Oct. 22.Herring graduated from Campbell’s School of Pharmacy in 1995 and worked at Scotland HealthCare Systems, Eli Lilly and Company and Medical Village Pharmacy before purchasing Medical Village in 2003.He is past president and founding member of the Pharmacy Alumni Association and helped to implement the school’s Senior Awards program. In addition, Herring has been a guest lecturer in the classroom and a School of Pharmacy convocation speaker. He is a member of the School of Pharmacy Board of Advisors and serves as a preceptor in the pharmacy practice program. Herring’s strong financial support of the new pharmacy teaching facility, Maddox Hall, enabled him to name a lecture hall in honor of his father, James Edward Herring, Sr., and a lab in honor of an esteemed faculty member, Dr. James Junker.”It’s a great honor to be named a Distinguished Alumnus of Campbell University,” Herring said. “Ever since I started school here when I was 18, the University has always given and never really taken much from me. It’s just added to me and this award is just an extension of that.”Herring is an active member of his community, serving as chairman of the Major Gifts Division of the Scotland HealthCare System Foundation Board, member of the First National Bank Advisory Board in Scotland County and member of the National Community Pharmacy Association.He and his wife Carla are the parents of three children, sons Hannon and Harmon, and a daughter Carlea.Photo Copy: Campbell University President Dr. Jerry M.
