RALEIGH – Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard has announced that the Law Offices of John M. McCabe, PA has offered to financially sponsor a team of Campbell Law student advocates.

McCabe sponsored the Campbell Law team of Rosa Reyes, Adam Webb, Holden McLemore and Alex Puszczynski at the Battle of the Experts at Drexel University School of Law on Oct. 6–8 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The team was coached by Pat Meacham, who is a partner at Parker Poe. Meacham is a 1999 graduate of Campbell Law, where he serves as an adjunct professor.

“The Law Offices of John M. McCabe has financially paved the way for our student advocates, and we are blessed to enjoy our relationship with them,” Leonard said. “Their gifts provide the opportunity for our students to learn, get competitive experience, and show the rest of the country how our first-class advocacy program is molding the future leading attorneys of tomorrow. We are in debt to them for their generosity.”

The Battle of the Experts is a newly conceived tournament focused on the impact expert witnesses can have on trial outcomes. Student advocates must direct and cross-examine expert witnesses using every available tool – including qualifications, methodology, proper application, bias, etc. The tournament invites 14 law schools and mock trial coaches with a history of success in mock trial competitions to compete over a three-day period. This year, students retried the case of a woman accused of murdering her husband which resulted in a hung jury. New evidence has been discovered 20 years later and the government is now retrying the case. The use of expert testimony was  pivotal to the outcome.

A native of Cary, McCabe graduated from Campbell Law in 1994. While at Campbell, he was named to two national moot court teams, and the law school’s faculty recognized him as one of the nation’s best, up-and-coming lawyers. Since 1995, McCabe he has focused exclusively on representing people throughout the country who have been injured by trucking collisions, medical negligence, defective products, and on-the-job accidents.
