Martin & Jones, PLLC to sponsor trial competition team

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard announced today that Martin & Jones, PLLC has provided a gift to the law school to financially assist a trial competition team. The firm’s contribution will provide support for a group of Campbell Law students competing at The National Civil Trial Competition, Nov. 14-16, in Los Angeles, California.

“Our law school is thankful for the generous gift provided by our friends at Martin & Jones,” said Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard. “More than 50 law schools nationwide applied to participate in this event, and Campbell Law was one of the 16 selected. Thanks to Martin & Jones our students will be able to experience this fabulous opportunity.”

The National Civil Trial Competition fields 16 teams from law schools, with four students competing on each team. Students serve as advocates and witnesses, perform opening statements, conduct direct and cross examinations of expert and lay witnesses, make closing arguments and argue objections based on the Federal Rules of Evidence.

The preliminary elimination rounds begin Friday, Nov. 14, at the Santa Monica Courthouse. The semi-final and final rounds will be argued at Loyola Law School on Sunday, Nov. 16. Each team presents its case before a panel of judges consisting of prestigious members of the Southern California Bar.
