Medical School Receives Accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education

Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine received approval as an accredited sponsoring institution by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) on August 21, 2015.
The medical school’s 19 affiliated residency programs are accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).  In July 2014, the AOA House of Delegates voted to pursue a new, single accreditation system for graduate medical education in the United States with ACGME.
When fully implemented in July 2020, graduates of osteopathic and allopathic medical schools (DO and MD respectively) will complete their residency education in ACGME-accredited programs and demonstrate achievement of common milestones and competencies.  Campbell is now equipped to transition their existing programs to ACGME accreditation.
“I am thrilled that CUSOM has been granted accreditation as a sponsoring institution by the ACGME because I think this approval reflects the quality of the graduate medical education we are developing with our partners,” said Dr. Robert Hasty, associate dean for postgraduate affairs. “This accreditation system allows us to transition our current and future residency programs to the single accreditation system, which will accredit all residency programs – DO and MD – in the United States after 2020.”
