Members of Campbell Pre-Law Fraternity attend national conference

Washington, D.C.-Four members of the Campbell University chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity attended the fraternities national conference in Washington, D.C. Nov. 13-16.

Chapter president Elizabeth Lyerly, Vice President Megan Bufkin and members Justin Bryant and Christopher Dodge participated in a Mock Trials competition sponsored by the international fraternity. All four students had the opportunity to perform direct examinations of witnesses, cross examinations and present either opening arguments or closing statements.

The conference also featured speakers from Veritas Prep, an organization that prepares students for the law school admissions process. Adam Carrol, the author of “Guilty by Reason of Stupidity,” spoke on how students can build on online image that will appeal to prospective law schools and employers.

A Law School Expo was held on Saturday featuring law schools from across the country that provided valuable information about the admissions process. Some of the focuses included making an informed financial decision for law school, the law school admissions essay and financial investments for the future.

“The conference was an excellent learning opportunity for the students in attendance,” said Dr. James Martin, chair of the department of Government, History and Justice and chapter advisor. “The students came back with valuable information they look forward to sharing with their fellow members beginning the law school admissions process in the near future.”
