RALEIGH, N.C. –Campbell Law School recently had the pleasure of hosting Mercer University President William Underwood on campus. He has served as president at Mercer University since 2006.
President Underwood delivered a pointed and informational address to Campbell Law first-year students as a part of the ongoing professionalism series. He called on his experiences as a practicing attorney, scholar, and educator throughout his address.
President Underwood also spent time visiting with Campbell Law administrators, faculty, and students, including Campbell Law Dean Melissa Essary with whom he served at Baylor Law School.
Under President Underwood’s guidance, Mercer has increased enrolled my approximately 20 percent, launched a medical school campus in Savannah, added several Ph.D. programs, and initiated a master’s-level physician assistant program and a doctoral-level program in physical therapy.
Prior to his tenure at Mercer, President Underwood served as Baylor University Interim President and held Baylor Law School’s prestigious Leon Jaworski Chair. An accomplished scholar and educator, he was designated as a Baylor Master Teacher in recognition of extraordinary teaching in the classroom over an extended period of time, and received the Baylor Alumni Association’s W.R. White Distinguished Service Award in 2008.
