Buies Creek, N.C.-Music professors from around the region will perform in concert on Tuesday, March 16, at 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall of Campbell University’s Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.
Among the musicians featured are Dr. Scott Marosek, assistant professor of Music at Methodist University; Dr. Keith Dippre, chair of the Music Department at Methodist University; Megan Murphy Kenny, adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and Dr. Howard Kim, assistant professor of music at Fayetteville State University.
Others on the program include Jesse Davis, a member of the faculty at Snyder Music Academy; Dr. Ernest Lamb, chair of the Music Department at Fayetteville State University; Fayetteville resident Dr. Bruce Blanton, Catherine Legrand, adjunct professor at Campbell University; Kenneth Grigg, a music teacher from Texas; Pamela Kelly, a music professor at Campbell and Campbell student David Pham.
“Today’s composers are not limited by style or form,” said Betty Wishart, professor of music at Campbell. “From the romanticism of ‘Black Anemones’ to the jazz influenced ‘Double Dance,’ the concert features a wide variety of styles and instruments.”
Wishart, who is the composer of two of the pieces, “I Soliste” and “Six Bagatelles,” said audiences are in for a surprise. “If you thought all classical music composers were dead, you’re wrong,” she said. “Many of the composers featured in the concert are contemporaries who write and play classical music.”
