RALEIGH, N.C. – On Wednesday, May 18, the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University and the Jenkins MBA program in the NC State Poole College of Management announced a partnership to provide students with the opportunity to obtain a dual Juris Doctor (JD) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Beginning with the fall 2011 semester, the JD/MBA degree will enable students to earn both degrees in four years of full-time study, with the option to take electives and specialization courses in both business and law.

“Businesses need to have lawyers on staff in order to accomplish their goals, so by having a dual JD/MBA degree, graduates will become even more marketable,” said Melissa A. Essary, dean and professor of law at Campbell Law. “Law is a gateway degree, opening up many doors and careers. If coupled with a great MBA degree, this gateway is widened considerably.”
“JD/MBA degree students will benefit from a cross section of disciplines, including the analytical culture of law and the problem solving culture of business graduates,” said Steve Allen, associate dean for graduate programs and research in the NC State Poole College of Management. “Students in the dual program will be well prepared for careers in business, finance, law, government, nonprofit organizations, teaching and research. Some students may even go on to governmental roles in North Carolina, helping identify and solve problems facing the state.”
