New Campbell website fine-tuned to expanding needs

Buies Creek, N.C. – A growing enrollment, the addition of new academic programs and an upsurge in interest were behind the launch of a new Campbell University website on Tuesday, June 1.

Campbell Web Designer/Administrator Jason Bray said the website not only features a dynamic new look, but more functionality and friendliness as well.

“In the past year, our website has been viewed by our visitors over two million times,” said Bray. “For a relatively small university, we have a busy website. For many people, our website is their first exposure to Campbell, that is why it needs to be engaging, but more importantly, it needs to be user-friendly.”

According to Bray, the old website failed on several levels. The new site’s pages are larger to accommodate the larger computer screens preferred by the majority of Campbell’s visitors and the main navigational system has been streamlined to provide easier access to content by different groups of people.

“We’ve added six new ‘gateways’ to content, each tailored to the category of visitor to the site,” Bray said. “They are Accepted Students, Current Students, Future Students, Faculty and Staff, Alumni and Friends and Parents and Visitors. A visitor looking at the Future Student gateway, for example, would find information focused entirely on the needs of a future student and so on.

Bray called the new design a “powerful tool” to help visitors quickly find the information they need.

But time and testing will determine the website’s success, he added.

“There is a tremendous amount of work still to do before I’ll be satisfied,” said Bray. “But I do believe the new site has provided us with a powerful foundation moving forward.”

Initial designs for the new Campbell University website were created by Vision Point Marketing design firm in Raleigh and adjusted to reflect the months of feedback received from students, faculty and staff and a website design committee. Final implementation of the design was handled by Vision Point.
