Buies Creek, N.C.—New and returning students to Campbell University this week were greeted with some major changes like the relocation of the campuses’ main library and the addition of a spacious new women’s dormitory.
The 75-room, 48,000 square-foot dormitory located just behind Powell Hall near the Leslie Campbell Hall of Science building, has a student capacity of 147. The rooms are configured as suites similar to those of the recently completed Bob Barker Hall on Leslie Campbell Avenue. Like Barker Hall, four students share a suite and a bathroom, but each studenthas her own bedroom, sink and closet space. The suites in the new, but yet to be named, residence hall do not contain kitchens, however.
A number of student commons areas are located in the three-story construction with the primary commons area being a sun-filled, glass enclosed space that is open to the environment. Two additional commons areas, vending machines, lounge areas and a laundry facility on the third floor are also included in the design.
Architects Little Diversified Architectural Consulting Firm created the design to meld with the campuses’ prevailing Colonial revival style with its symmetrical façade and brick siding.
Freshmen moved into their residence halls on Saturday, August 14, while the majority of returning upperclassmen moved in on Sunday, August 15.
