BUIES CREEK — Campbell University’s proposed nursing program has taken the next step in building its infrastructure by appointing Retired Col. Sandra Goins, DNP, assistant director and assistant professor of nursing.
“We are delighted that Dr. Goins is here,” said Nancy Duffy, DNP, director of Campbell’s nursing program. “She is a perfect fit for expanding our program. She brings invaluable leadership experience to our students and is a potential link to building military bridge programs for Campbell. She is thoughtful, grounded, experienced, and ready to hit the ground running for Campbell nurses.”
Goins began her career in nursing by enlisting in the United States Army and serving the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center as a staff nurse in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Over the course of three decades, she served in various military hospitals throughout the nation gaining invaluable experience as a nurse, chief of nursing and consultant to the Army surgeon general. She earned the rank of colonel along with numerous service awards and medals before retiring from the Army in 2006.
Since retiring, she has served in various academic roles in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, specifically at North Carolina Central University and Fayetteville State University. At Campbell, Goins will be responsible for planning clinical experiences for students, advising students with academic counseling, and serving as a clinical agency liaison with facilities that train Campbell BSN students. Campbell is expected to enroll its first nursing students this fall, pending SACSCOC approval.
Goins holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Chatham University, a Master of Science in Nursing and Master of Public Health from Emory University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University. She is a certified nurse education educator and is an active registered nurse in the state of North Carolina.
