Office of Continuing Professional Education receives six-year accreditation

The CPHS Office of Continuing Professional Education (CPHS CPE) has received a six-year term of accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) Continuing Pharmacy Education Commission. Andy Bowman (‘93 PharmD), program director and clinical assistant professor of Pharmacy Practice, said, “This is the fourth, six-year accreditation accommodation that CPHS CPE has received from ACPE during my tenure as director of Continuing Professional Education. Six-year reaccreditations were awarded in 2003, 2009, 2015, and 2021.”

Continuing Education is a requirement for license renewal in all fifty states for pharmacists and other health care professionals. The accreditation status allows CPHS CPE to provide current, valuable, evidence-based educational activities for pharmacists and technicians in diverse practice settings. CPHS CPE programming strives to incorporate active learning techniques to enhance the participant’s educational experience, while promoting the practice of pharmacy and interprofessional education.

Bowman hosted a two-part continuing pharmacy education webinar on the development and COVID-19 immunization plans for North Carolina pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in January. Due to the generous support of the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, the webinar was free to all techs or pharmacists in NC. To date, more than 2,500 pharmacy professionals received the COVID-19 education. “The COVID-19 webinar was a unique opportunity to combination my role as director of CPE at CPHS and my role as a representative on the NC Board of Pharmacy,” said Bowman. “The COVID series helped to identify Campbell University as a healthcare education leader during the global pandemic.”

Colleges/Schools of Pharmacy only account for approximately 25% of the over 400 ACPE-accredited continuing pharmacy education providers. Campbell’s ability to access content experts from faculty is huge benefit as a provider.  In addition, programming reaches pharmacists from all over the country, which helps spread the Campbell University and CPHS brand.
