RALEIGH, N.C. –Campbell Law School’s Old Kivett Advocacy Council (OKAC) recently hosted the Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling Competition at the law school. Wes Saunders and Jessica Yount were declared winners of the competition, while Dana Rybak and Chad Rhoades also served as finalists. The final round was judged by the competition’s namesake, Campbell Law Professor Richard Bowser, as well as Campbell Law Professor Lisa Lukasik.
Saunders and Yount will travel to Virginia in February, along with last year’s winners Andrew Evans and Molly Hilburn-Holte, to represent Campbell Law in the regional client counseling competition.
The Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling Competition simulates a law office consultation in which law students, acting as attorneys, are presented with a client matter. Participants conduct an interview with a person playing the role of the client and then explain how they would proceed further in the hypothetical situation. Approximately 30 second-year students and 50 guest judges participated, as did 20 law students acting as clients.
Comprised of 12 third-year and second-year students, the OKAC annually organizes the Richard A. Lord Intramural Moot Court Competition and the Richard T. Bowser Intramural Client Counseling Competition in the fall, as well as the Campbell Law Intramural Negotiation Competition in the spring.
