Past AOA president to speak at Campbell Medicine commencement

Boyd R. Buser, DO and immediate past president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) will offer the commencement address at the 2018 Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine’s hooding and graduation ceremony.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on May 10, in the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center.

“I am absolutely delighted that Dr. Buser will be this spring’s commencement speaker,” said Dr. John M. Kauffman Jr., dean. “I can imagine no better person to inspire the Class of 2018.”

A graduate of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Buser served as president of the American Academy of Osteopathy and was named Educator of the Year by the AOA and American Osteopathic Foundation in 1995.  He is board certified in osteopathic manipulative medicine and family medicine, and is a distinguished fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP). He is an instrumental figure in the development of the single accreditation system for graduate medical education.

From 2011-2013, he co-chaired the AOA/AACOM Blue Ribbon Commission on the Advancement of Osteopathic Medical Education. Buser is past chairman of the board of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) and is a founding and current member of the board of directors of the Osteopathic International Alliance. 

Buser has served as the vice president for health affairs and dean at University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine since 2007 where he also holds the rank of professor of osteopathic principles and practice as well as professor of family medicine.
