Pennings and Maharaj named student directors of North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina — CUSOM faculty and students gathered with physicians and medical students from across North Carolina for the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians (NCAFP) Winter Family Physicians Weekend in Asheville, North Carolina this month.  Jeffrey Pennings (MS-III) was sworn in as Student Director of NCAFP’s Board of Directors and Angie Maharaj (MS-II) was named Student Director Elect.

Pennings was named Student Director-Elect in 2014.  Now, as Student Director, he will serve on the Academy’s Board of Directors, fulfill duties such as serving on committees, act as a liaison between the NCAFP Board and North Carolina medical students, and serve as the voting delegate at the National Conference of Student Members.

Angie Maharaj (MS-II), 2015 NCAFP Student Director-Elect, will be a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and at the conclusion of her term she will become the NCAFP Student Director. 

Following, Pennings, she is the second CUSOM student to be elected by medical students from all five North Carolina medical schools for this position since Campbell’s medical school opened three years ago.
