Buies Creek – The Campbell University PGA Golf Management Program, in conjunction with the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, will assume management responsibility of the Keith Hills Country Club operation starting Monday, November 9, 2009.
Daily operation of the facility will transition into the academic program of the PGA Golf Management major. The Keith Hills CC operation will become a learning laboratory for the 185 students enrolled in the PGA Golf Management major. Student workers will utilize a best practices philosophy while experiencing responsibilities in all facets of the operation, including golf shop operations, range management, golf car fleet management, food & beverage management, and turfgrass management. PGA Golf Management faculty will provide daily supervision and evaluation of the students in the new learning environment.
Kenneth Jones, Director of the PGA Golf Management Program, has been named the General Manager in charge of the Keith Hills operation. Long-time Keith Hills’ staff member Martha Shooter assumes a faculty position in the PGA Golf Management Program. She will also serve as the Head Golf Professional at Keith Hills in addition to her new duties with the program.
The PGA Golf Management students are required to complete 16 months of internship experience at golf facilities throughout the country. “Students are evaluated by their supervising professional at the internship facility, but the faculty didn’t truly know the quality of their work on the job. We will now have a better understanding of student learning outcomes based on their knowledge, skills, and abilities running our own facility,” said Jones.
The PGA Golf Management program at Campbell prepares students for a variety of employment opportunities as PGA professionals in the golf industry. The program was established in 1995 and it received PGA accreditation in 1999. The Campbell University PGA Golf Management program is the fourth largest of the 20 PGA-accredited programs in the nation. Students earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in PGA Golf Management. In addition to the business courses required for graduation, students are required to pass the PGA Playing Ability Test, complete 16 months of internship, and complete the 3-level PGA education program.
