Pharmacy student-athlete receives national academic honors

Campbell University 2016 Winter Commencement

Campbell University starting placekicker and second-year pharmacy student Sam Eberwein has been named to the FCS Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star team and the College Sports Journal FCS All-Academic squads.

Eberwein and his teammate Kurt Odom are two of just 54 in the nation (five in the Pioneer Football League) to receive FCS All-Star status. The two join Jordan Cramer (fullback, 2011) as the only other Camels to make the list in the program's five seasons.

Eberwein and Odom's selections to the CSJ FCS All-Academic team are the first in program history.

A senior placekicker, Eberwein was also a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Award this season, as well as First Team Academic All-District 3 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and First Team Academic All-PFL. Eberwein owned a perfect 4.00 GPA during his undergraduate work, and holds a 3.67 in the pharmacy program. Eberwein was a perfect 21-for-21 on extra point attempts this season and connected on 3-of-9 field goal tries with a long of 41.

A four-time PFL All-Academic selection, Eberwein is president of Campbell's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a Campbell representative at the Big South's Leadership Conference, a pharmacy and presidential scholar at the University, and a multiple recipient of the Campbell Scholar-Athlete Award, among others, while enrolled in the PharmD/MBA dual degree program.
