Pharmacy student selected for national scholars program

Isabella Illig

Campbell University second-year pharmacy student Isabella Illig has been selected by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) to participate in the Community Pharmacy Student Scholars Program.

Now in its second year, the Community Pharmacy Student Scholars Program was created by AACP to prepare future pharmacists to advance community-based practice, foster innovation, and strengthen patient care. The yearlong program accepts up to 20 students nationwide who demonstrate leadership potential and a passion for community pharmacy. Scholars take part in learning modules, guided mentorship, and professional networking that allow them to collaborate with peers and mentors across the country. They also engage in a group poster presentation and leadership workshops designed to build self-awareness and strengthen their ability to advocate for patients and communities. The program concludes with a networking event at the 2026 AACP Annual Meeting, where participants will share what they have learned. Isabella’s selection places her among a distinguished group of students chosen to explore innovative solutions that expand the role of pharmacists in improving access to healthcare.

Guiding Isabella in the program will be Dr. Eric Lee, faculty mentor at Campbell, and her father, Curtis Illig, who serves as her pharmacist mentor and owns White Oak Pharmacy in Garner, NC.

“Isabella’s work ethic and compassion exemplify the type of leadership our profession needs,” said Dr. Eric Lee, assistant professor of pharmacy practice. “Her selection for the Community Pharmacy Student Scholars Program is a testament to her drive to reimagine how pharmacists serve their communities and patients. I’m honored to support her along with her father on her journey with AACP as she explores new models of care and builds connections that will shape the future of pharmacy.”

This national recognition highlights Isabella’s dedication to advancing community pharmacy practice and her commitment to patient-centered care. Through the program, she will collaborate with peers across the country while focusing on innovative approaches to community-based pharmacy.
