Pharmacy teaching facility dedicated to Dean Ronald Maddox

Buies Creek–Like a proud parent, Dr. Ronald Maddox, dean of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy, looked on as the school’s new 42,000 square-foot pharmacy teaching facility, Maddox Hall, was dedicated in his honor on Wednesday, Oct. 3.As its founding dean, Maddox played an integral role in the growth of the School of Pharmacy, from its establishment in 1986 with only 54 students to its current enrollment of 435 students in the School of Pharmacy and over 1,000 students in pharmacy related programs at Campbell. He has overseen the development of the pharmacy school’s comprehensive degree program–including bachelors and masters degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Research and the Doctor of Pharmacy degree. And he has witnessed the school’s phenomenal performance on both state and national exams–an overall 99 percent passage rate on all state board exams and a 98 percent passage rate on the national exam.Speaking to an audience of approximately 300 people, Maddox recalled his first interview for the position of charter dean with the late President Norman Adrian Wiggins.”I asked Dr. Wiggins why he wanted to start a pharmacy school at Campbell,” Maddox said. “Dr. Wiggins answered that while growing up in Burlington, N.C., the community pharmacist was practically the only source of health care for his family. He wanted to train community pharmacists like the ones he knew in his hometown in the Christian environment of Campbell University.”Maddox thanked God, his family, the Pharmacy Network Foundation Board of Directors, donors, alumni, faculty, administration, students and the pharmacy community for the honor.”As we move forward, it is my hope that Maddox Hall will serve as a vehicle to sustain Dr. Wiggins’ vision for the Campbell University School of Pharmacy,” he said. “We must continue to place our primary focus on the development of service oriented community pharmacists in the Christian environment.”Located between the Science Building and Carter Gymnasium, Maddox Hall features classrooms; a student study center; breakout rooms; administrative and alumni suites; two 3,534 square-foot lecture halls; faculty offices; a Professional Association Room; and close to 6,000 square-feet of laboratory space and lab preparation area.”Today is a recognition and celebration of Dean Ronald Maddox’s success and hard work,” said Campbell President Jerry M. Wallace. “Once again, as God has provided at critical times in this school’s history, the Lord provided Ronald Maddox. Maddox Hall is deservingly-named and will ever be a visible testimony to this outstanding leader.”The Campbell University School of Pharmacy was established in 1986 as the first new school of pharmacy to open in the United States in 35 years. In 1990, the charter class distinguished itself with a 100 percent passage rate on state and national board examinations. Subsequent classes have maintained a record of 98 percent passage rate on the national board exam and 99 percent on state board exams. The school is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Additional courses are taught at the School of Pharmacy Department of Clinical Research located on Campbell University’s RTP campus.Photo Copy: Dr. Ronald Maddox, left, dean of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy and Dr. Jerry M.
