Buies Creek, N.C.—Dexter Everette Floyd, of Kinston, N.C., received one of Campbell University’s highest honors during commencement exercises on Saturday, May 15, 2010. Floyd, who owns and operates a group of Piggly Wiggly stores in eastern North Carolina, received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan award, given to students and community leaders who demonstrate outstanding moral and civic responsibility.
A member of First Baptist Church of Kinston, Floyd has served as a deacon and as a member of various church committees. He is also a member of the Wachovia Board of Directors, the Lenoir Community College Foundation Board and the Campbell University Board of Trustees, where he has served on several committees.
Floyd and his wife Dorothy have a son Gregory. Gregory and his wife Jennifer are the parents of two sons, Everette and Anderson. Gregory and Jennifer are 2002 graduates of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University.
