Southern Pines, N.C.—Dr. Tom W. Rice, Associate Provost for Faculty at the University of Iowa and seasoned political science professor, delivered Campbell University’s annual Kenelm Lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Weymouth Center in Southern Pines, N.C.
Founded in 1981, the Kenelm Lecture is sponsored by the Campbell University Department of Government, History and Justice and funded by the Kenelm Foundation of Collingwood, N.J. Seminars held three times a year at the Weymouth Center focus on taxation, politics and law.
Rice’s presentation, “Puzzles that Keep a Social Scientist Up at Night: Rational Voting, Happiness and Southern Nationalism,” examined the nature of the political climate in the South.
Rice earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University in 1979 and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Iowa in 1983. He was a member of the political science faculties of the University of Vermont, Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Iowa. He was appointed Associate Provost for Faculty at the University of Iowa in 2010.
Rice served as a department chair at three universities, the University of Vermont, Northern Iowa and Iowa University. He also served as an administrative fellow in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa Universityfrom 2008-2009.
