Buies Creek, N.C.—Edward B. Titmus, president of the Titmus Foundation, Inc., received the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at Campbell University’s commencement exercises held Saturday, May 15. Titmus is a 1959 Campbell alumnus.
A native of Virginia, Titmus is a life-long farmer and conservationist who led several local and state-wide organizations, including the Virginia Holstein Association, the Virginia Milk Commission and the Southside Division of the Maryland-Virginia Milk Producers Association. He also served multiple terms on the Dinwiddie County Board of Education.
A graduate of Campbell Junior College, Titmus continued his education at North Carolina State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. As president of the Titmus Foundation, a philanthropic organization that focuses on Christian higher education among other causes, Titmus established an endowed chair at Campbell, the Edna Queener Profitt Chair of Chemistry, and has supported university expansion through numerous grants and gifts.
Associations with the late Reverend Charles B. Howard, Campbell professor of religion, Leslie H. Campbell, second president of Campbell University, and Edna Queener Proffitt, profoundly influenced his life, Titmus said.
Titmus was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the university and currently serves on its Presidential Board of Advisors.
