Campbell University wrapped up its six-stop Presidential Welcome Tour with a warm and spirited evening in Wilmington at the Aloft Wilmington at Coastline Center, celebrating the Campbell community’s strong presence in New Hanover County and beyond.

President William M. Downs shared his deep pride for the region, highlighting how the short distance between Wilmington and Buies Creek helps connect future Campbell graduates with a growing network of more than 800 alumni living and working in the area.

The evening featured inspiring reflections from Abigail Croom, a 4+1 MBA student graduating with a degree in Trust and Wealth Management this winter, who shared how her Campbell experience has prepared her for both professional success and a life of purpose.

Her words embodied the University’s mission of developing servant leaders grounded in a strong sense of calling.

“I’ve been on six stops of this tour and we’ve been fortunate to have alumni success stories at every visit. Those are mic-drop worthy moments,” said President Downs. “Hearing their stories speaks to our incredible mission and the important work we do at Campbell.”

Adding a touch of humor and heart, Presidential Board of Advisor member Steve Gaskins brought laughter and energy to the crowd, setting the stage for a fun, conversational, and memorable night that perfectly captured the spirit of Campbell.

This while celebrating the closing moments of a Campbell Men’s Soccer 4-0 Coastal Athletic Conference playoff victory Thursday night over league foes UNCW. Downs noted the importance of this blossoming rivalry in the CAA and the opportunity to build deeper connections in Wilmington with frequent visits to the region.

The Wilmington event marked the conclusion of a statewide journey that introduced President Downs and First Lady, Kim Downs, to alumni, students, and friends of Campbell. The tour served as both a celebration of community and a reaffirmation of the University’s mission.

“I thoroughly enjoyed traveling around the state for our ‘Campbell Forward’ tour,” shared Downs.  “Kim and I met so many people who deeply love their alma mater, and each of the six events helped us rally support and momentum around my bold vision for our university’s future. We shook a lot of hands, learned many new names, and shared countless laughs with the Campbell faithful who remember their campus experiences with great fondness.”

“Now, with the tour wrapped up, it’s time for us to truly get busy moving Campbell forward.”
