Professor Bowser named Lynch Professor of the Philosophy of Law

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law Associate Professor Richard T. Bowser has been named the Lynch Professor of the Philosophy of Law. He marks the second Campbell Law professor to serve in this role, following retired faculty member Dr. Stanley McQuade.

Bowser joined the Campbell Law faculty in 1992. On three separate occasions he has been named Professor of the Year by a vote of students, and has twice received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence. In September 2009, the students honored his service to the law school by naming the annual client counseling competition in his honor.

“I am particularly honored and humbled to be appointed to the Lynch chair, which was held by Dr. J. Stanley McQuade until his retirement earlier this year,” said Bowser. “Dr. McQuade was a marvelous example of excellence as a professor and scholar. I’ll strive to continue that tradition of excellence as the Lynch Professor.”

In addition to the field of legal philosophy, Bowser has taught in and written upon a rather wide range of topics including constitutional law, wills and trusts and estate planning. He is particularly interested in exploring the nature of law and its role in society from a Reformed Christian theological perspective. Outside the classroom, Bowser serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Covenant College.

Bowser graduated summa cum laude from Campbell Law in 1991. He is also a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary (magna cum laude) and Grove City College (magna cum laude).
