RALEIGH, N.C. –Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law Professor Amos Jones will deliver a speech on education and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in Owensboro, Ky., on Saturday, January 14. Professor Jones’ address will be hosted by the Owensboro Career Development Association at its annual banquet associated with the federal holiday celebrating Dr. King’s birthday.
Professor Jones teaches, researches, and writes in the areas of contracts, constitutional law, and racial relations.
“Thirty-two years ago, our family relocated to Owensboro as my father accepted the call to the pulpit of the historic Fourth Street Baptist Church there,“ said Jones. “I experienced most of my primary and secondary education in that city, so I am quite pleased to have been invited to address the community about education and about Dr. King’s valiant contributions, which I consider to be a function of his formal and informal training as a Baptist pastor’s son.“
Prior to joining the Campbell Law faculty, Professor Jones served elsewhere as a visiting assistant professor of constitutional law and practiced for three years in international trade and litigation with a major firm in Washington, D.C. Professor Jones previously was a journalist with McClatchy newspapers and played viola professionally with the Charlotte Philharmonic Orchestra.
A native of Lexington, Ky., Professor Jones earned his undergraduate degree cum laude in political science from Emory University, where he was a National Merit Scholar, a Woodruff Scholar, a Truman Scholar, and a member of USA Today’s 2000 All-USA College Academic First Team. He earned a master of science from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School, where he was executive editor of two journals and was awarded a Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship, on which he studied in Australia.
