RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law School Associate Professor of Law Dr. Kevin Lee participated in the “Love & Law” conference at the Herbert & Elinor Nootbaar Institute on Law, Religion and Ethics at Pepperdine University on Friday, Feb. 7. Dr. Lee’s presentation, “Agape, Eros, Caritas and the Law,” was included as a part of a breakout session on theology and the law.
“This conference explores the relationship between the legal system and the normative systems of Christian thought,” said Dr. Lee. “My paper looks at the ways we are inspired by those we love most to try to be worthy of them. It asks what it would mean for us to have laws worthy of our loved ones, especially our children.”
The “Love & Law” conference attempts to explore the relationship between the law and the value of Christian agape love. An array of leading scholarships in the fields of philosophy, political science, law, economics, theology and literature pose and address questions related to the law and love throughout the conference via panel discussions and presentations.
A multidimensional legal scholar and teacher with advanced degrees in Christian ethics, religious studies, and philosophy, Dr. Lee couples his long-standing interest in the phenomenon of human religiousness with an interest in the emerging networked, globalized society. Last year Dr. Lee spoke at the annual Conference on Religious Legal Theory and the 16th Annual Meeting of the Association for the Study of Law, Culture & the Humanities.
