Professor Lee speaks at Mississippi College School of Law

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law School Associate Professor of Law Kevin Lee served as one of seven invited speakers at a conference at Mississippi College School of Law, March 28-29. Lee discussed his paper, “Proximity and Loyalty, Levinas, Alterity, and Meinhard v. Salmon,” which examines the thought of European philosopher Emmanuel Levinas, who wrote in the early 20th century.

The conference, “Law and Human Rights in a Post-Secular World,” explored the foundations for human rights in an era when secular reasoning has been found to be inadequate and incomplete as a basis for legitimating human rights. Leading scholars and educators from Millsaps College, Mississippi College, Penn State University, Princeton University and Valparaiso University also participated.

A multidimensional legal scholar and teacher with advanced degrees in Christian ethics, religious studies, and philosophy, Lee couples his long-standing interest in the phenomenon of human religiousness with an interest in the emerging networked, globalized society. Last year Lee spoke at the annual Conference on Religious Legal Theory and the 16th Annual Meeting of the Association for the Study of Law, Culture & the Humanities. Earlier this year he took part in the “Love & Law” conference at Pepperdine.
