Professor Lukasik to teach in Cambridge during study abroad program

Campbell Law Assistant Professor of Law Lisa Lukasik will serve as a faculty member for a study abroad program at Sidney Sussex College in Cambridge, England, June 30 to Aug. 1. Lukasik will instruct a two-credit course on Global Issues in Education, Equality, and Human Rights Law.

The program, orchestrated by Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, allows participating students to gain international experience by studying and living in a legal system and culture different from their own.

In addition to Lukasik, four current Campbell Law students will take part in the trip. All students participate in a one-credit first-week course, The English Legal System and European Union: A Comparative Overview. Each student will then chose two elective courses for the remainder of the program. Additional course offerings include European Union Law, Resolving Disputes Across Cultures, and International Banking Law.

“I am honored to have been selected to teach in Cambridge as part of Samford’s global learning program,” said Lukasik. “I am grateful for the opportunity and especially delighted to share it with four Campbell Law students.”

Lukasik teaches courses in public school law and special education law, among others, at Campbell Law. She received the 2011-12 Campbell Law Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research based upon her contributions to legal scholarship in the area of public school law. In December 2011, Business Leader Magazine named her a Triangle Woman Extraordinaire in recognition of her leadership and service to the legal profession.

Lukasik earned her undergraduate degree with honors from Washington University in St. Louis, where she graduated as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her law degree with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, where she graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. As a student she was a published member of the North Carolina Law Review, founding editor of the North Carolina Banking Institute Publication, and an Honors Writing Scholar.

Prior to Campbell Law, Lukasik served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, practiced education law at Tharrington Smith LLP, and clerked for the Honorable Willis P. Whichard, former dean of Campbell Law, on the Supreme Court of North Carolina.
