RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law School Professor Matt Sawchak spoke on October 13 before an audience of North Carolina appellate lawyers, judges, and court officials, addressing advanced topics in appellate procedure.
Sawchak’s address was part of a North Carolina Bar Association program that sought to enhance appellate advocacy and to prepare lawyers to pursue the new North Carolina State Bar specialization in appellate practice. Over 125 lawyers and judges participated in the program, either live or by webcast. The faculty for the program included, among other speakers, U.S. Circuit Judge James Wynn, and North Carolina Supreme Court Justices Robert Edmunds and Patricia Timmons-Goodson.
A new addition to serving on the Campbell Law faculty, Sawchak has been a leading appellate lawyer, business litigator, and antitrust lawyer for over 21 years. He is a past chairman of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Appellate Rules Committee, which makes recommendations to the North Carolina Supreme Court on issues of appellate procedure. He currently serves on the seven-member committee that administers North Carolina’s specialization in appellate practice.
