A presentation by Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice Dr. Andrew Darkow (’17 PharmD/MBA), has been featured in Pharmacy Times following its debut at the American Association of Pharmacy Technicians Annual National Convention.
The session, titled Decoding the Logic: An Overview of Biologics and Biosimilars, explored how these advanced therapies are reshaping the treatment landscape across numerous disease states. Unlike traditional therapies that primarily manage symptoms, biologics can target the underlying disease pathophysiology, offering more precise and effective treatment options.
The presentation also examined how biologics and biosimilars are approved and regulated, the requirements for product interchangeability, and the clinical and economic considerations that healthcare professionals must understand.
“Biologics and biosimilars are transforming patient care, and it’s vital for healthcare professionals to understand their science, regulation, and impact,” said Darkow. “I’m honored to share this information and thrilled that the discussion is being amplified through Pharmacy Times.”
With biologics and biosimilars playing an increasingly important role in patient care, this knowledge will be essential for providers in the years ahead.
