Public speaking workshop presented during Campbell Business’ First Thursdays event

On November 4, Campbell’s Graduate Business Programs hosted professor Brian Bowman for his presentation “Effective & Engaging Public Speaking” as part of the First Thursdays with Campbell Business initiative. This event, held in downtown Raleigh with a virtual option, welcomed not only current students and alumni from near and far, but also community members from the downtown Raleigh area.

Bowman is a full-time professor at Campbell University with more than 20 years of experience in the communication industry. He shared his personal experiences and knowledge to help participants learn how to better engage their audience using effective visual tools and techniques and also discussed how to overcome the anxiety that often accompanies public speaking.

Bowman’s primary focus at Campbell is Communication Studies; he is also an adjunct instructor and guest lecturer for the Campbell MBA Program. Prior to his time at Campbell, Bowman was a news reporter at WRAL News and a public information officer at two municipalities in our state. His public relations work earned numerous national and regional awards from peer groups for video and social media. He holds an M.A. in Technology and Communication from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. His thesis work included analysis of Paid, Owned, and Earned Media (POE) that were used to attract businesses to downtown Raleigh and Durham. Bowman earned the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2020, and is a certified College Media Advisor through the College Media Association.
