RALEIGH, N.C. – William A. Pully (L ’79) was one of five alums to collect the Campbell University Distinguished Alumni Award this past Friday, Oct. 19, during a banquet as a part of homecoming activities in Buies Creek, N.C. He currently sits on the Campbell Law School Board of Visitors.
The top university award bestowed upon alumni, the Campbell University Distinguished Alumni Award annually recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professional careers and in their service to their alma mater.
“I am humbled to receive this recognition,” said Pully. “No one has been more instrumental in my professional work than the strong mentors I had at Campbell. The keystone to my life’s work has been a Campbell Law degree. I would not trade it for anything.“
Pully began serving as president of the North Carolina Hospital Association (NCHA) in Sept. 1999. The NCHA serves 130 hospitals and health systems as a voice for members in legislative, regulatory and judicial arenas, and as a resource for members for current healthcare information and education. As NCHA chief lobbyist for more than 15 years and president for the past 13, he has been involved in almost every major healthcare initiative in North Carolina.
During his tenure as president, Pully has led the association in a number of initiatives including the creation of the North Carolina Center for Hospital Quality and Patient Safety. The Center has enhanced hospital quality through the development of educational collaboratives and public reporting of quality indicators.
Prior to becoming president, Pully was NCHA’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel. During that time, he was responsible for advocacy and representation for all hospital and healthcare-related issues before the North Carolina General Assembly and state agencies. He also managed all of NCHA’s legal actions and policy development.
