RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Bar Association recently honored Representative Sarah S. Stevens, Campbell Law class of ’86, as a 2011 recipient of the NCBA Citizen Lawyer Award. The award was presented at the NCBA Annual Meeting in Asheville.
Stevens represents District 90 (Surry and Alleghany counties) in the N.C. House of Representatives where she is currently serving her second term.
When she is not in Raleigh representing constituents in the General Assembly, she devotes her time to the practice of family law and community service. Stevens and her family donate time and resources to help abused and underprivileged women, the homeless and other needy citizens.
She volunteers with the Greater Mount Airy Ministry of Hospitality, a faith-based organization serving the homeless. A breast cancer survivor, she frequently counsels cancer patients as a member of the Surry Cancer Awareness Team.
The NCBA Citizen Lawyer Award was established in 2007 to recognize lawyers who provide exemplary public service to their communities. Honorees include elected and appointed government officials, coaches, mentors and voluntary leaders of non-profit, civic and community organizations.
