RALEIGH — Campbell Law School’s Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic Director Richard A. Waugaman III ‘09, ‘12 has been appointed as the inaugural Assistant Dean of Experiential Education, Dean J. Rich Leonard has announced.
“As the amount of experiential education required of us increases, this much-needed position will put us in a strong position to move forward,” Leonard explained.
In his new role that officially began March 1, 2025, Waugaman’s primary responsibilities will include overseeing the law school’s clinical programs while collaborating with the faculty and staff to strengthen other experiential learning opportunities such as simulated courses, field placements and experiential courses.
Waugaman will also focus on providing students with hands-on education that increases their awareness of a lawyer’s calling to be a servant within and for their community and prioritizing their competitiveness for clerkships and associate positions following graduation.
Waugaman, who was recently named among the 2025 “Leaders in the Law” by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, joined the faculty in July 2021. As director of the Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic, he has guided students in providing legal representation on family law issues for underserved members of the Wake County community.
Before joining Campbell Law, Waugaman was a managing partner at Lesnik Family Law, where he provided representation for victims of domestic violence. His practice also included child support, spousal support, child custody, domestic violence protective orders and termination of parental rights cases. He is a formerly certified Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission and a Parenting Coordinator.
Waugaman earned his J.D. cum laude from Campbell Law School in 2012 and his B.A. summa cum laude from Campbell University in 2009.
