Raleigh, N.C.—Robert P. Wellons, of Dunn, N.C., received Campbell University’s Adam Smith Club Free Enterprise Award at a banquet held Tuesday, April5, at the Hilton Hotel North in Raleigh. Given annually, the Free Enterprise Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding business and civic contributions.
A real estate developer and general contractor, Wellons is operator and president of Wellons Realty, Inc. and R.P. Wellons Land & Development, LLC., a company that develops residential communities and builds homes in Harnett, Cumberland, Wake and Sampson counties and surrounding areas. Wellons also owns and operates Wellons Construction, Inc., a site development company which builds roads, commercial and residential streets and contracts for utilities.
In addition, Wellons is president of Freedom Constructors, Inc. and Freedom Family Homes, a commercial and residential contracting company which builds residential homes throughout North and South Carolina. Currently, he serves as chairman of the Board of Directors for First Federal Bank, the oldest locally owned financial institution in Harnett County, and is a member of Campbell University’s Presidential Advisory Board and Harnett Forward Together.
Wellons has a special interest in wildlife conservation issues, contributing to Ducks Unlimited. He is a Diamond Legacy sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and Sponsor of Perpetuity in the Ducks Unlimited Sound Care.
The Adam Smith Club at Campbell University promotes the principles of individual liberty, responsibility, a free market economy and limited government. Founded in 1977, the club is one of the most active student groups on campus. Additionally, the club sponsors the annual Politics, Law and Economics Lecture series.
“This is a well-deserved recognition for the many contributions to the community, the business world and to Campbell University,” said Dr. Derek Yonai, The Lundy Chair of Business Philosophy and advisor to Campbell’s Adam Smith Club.
Keynote speaker for the evening was Dr. Peter Boettke, professor of economics at George Mason University. Boettke spoke on the tasks of economic education. Also present at the event were Mrs. Annabelle Fetterman, benefactor to Campbell’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business and Bob Barker, chairman of the Campbell University Board of Trustees, and his wife Pat.
