In an effort to keep pharmacists updated on the latest information and drug protocols, the Campbell University School of Pharmacy held its second annual “Fall Back on C.U. for C.E.” event in October. A total of 54 pharmacists from across the state gathered for three session of live continuing education, sponsored by the Continuing Education program and the Department of Alumni Relations”It is our goal to offer an annual event where alumni can rely on the School of Pharmacy to earn their contact credits required for continued licensure,” explained Andrea Pacheco, assistant director of Alumni Relations for the School of Pharmacy. “This event is also a great opportunity for alumni to stay connected with their classmates and alma mater.”The Continuing Education courses offered included an update on pharmacy law, the condition of Dyslipdemia and frequently committed pharmacy errors and safety tips.Jay Campbell, executive director of the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, updated pharmacists on the changes and additions to both state and federal pharmacy law. He also discussed their impact on patient care as well as the pharmacy profession.Associate Professor of Pharmacy Dr. Steve Fuller brought the pharmacists up to date on Dyslipdemia or the disruption of lipids in the blood. Fuller discussed current treatments, including prescription and nonprescription therapy.Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Dr. Robert Cisneros, covered common mistakes in the areas of medication and patient safety and highlighted steps to prevent errors and improve safety in the work place.Pharmacists who attended the session received six live hours of continuing education credit. A minimum of 10 hours with five live hours of credit is currently required by the state; however that number will increase to 15 hours with eight hours of live credit in 2008-2009.”I felt like the Continuing Education program was very successful,” said Rhonda Kaalund, coordinator of Continuing Education. “It not only provided pharmacists with vital live credit hours, but also gave Campbell alumni a chance to view our new teaching facility.”Campbell’s Maddox Hall, a 42,000 square-foot facility was dedicated on Oct. 3.Photo Copy: Continuing education students enjoy the opportunity to catch up with one another and visit the new pharmacy facility at Campbell University’s School of Pharmacy’s second annual Fall Back on C.U. for C.E. program.
