Senior exhibit features many media, many artistic styles

Buies Creek, N.C.—Campbell University seniors Anna Di Tommaso, Bronson Battaglia, Caleb Thornton and Laura Griggs are currently exhibiting their work in the E.P. Sauls Gallery of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. The exhibit will be on display through May15.

The Senior Exhibit for Graphic Design/Studio Art majors is a culmination of the students’ academic career in their major field of study at Campbell. The exhibit features almost every type of media—from acrylics to charcoal and sculpture. Styles vary also and include realism, pop art and modern art.

“Art has been something I’ve had to work at extremely hard to see improvement,” said Anna DiTommaso, of Sarasota, Fla. “I never took an art class until my first day of freshman year. The more artwork I do, however, the more enjoyable I find it.”

DiTomasso is majoring in Graphic Design, Advertising and Studio Art.

Senior Caleb Thornton was also a late comer to art. “I had no idea what I wanted to do for the first two years of my college career at Campbell,” Thornton said. “This has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I feel I’m fully prepared to strike out and face the real world.”

Thornton works in several media, including digital painting, acrylics and ink on canvas.

Bronson Battaglia’s work focuses on sculpture and design. His chosen themes are mythology and elements of nature. Of the four elements of nature, Battaglia selected earth and water for his exhibition.

Laura Griggs, of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is majoring in Graphic Design and Studio Art. Born and raised on the water, she spent her childhood swimming and romping through the woods with her older sister and younger brother. She came to Campbell with hopes of becoming a physical therapist, but after a couple of art and design classes, Griggs changed her mind.

“I love the ocean and sunshine more than anything,” she said. “I am obsessed with colors. I would like to say thanks to all of my art teachers for their compassion and support.”
