RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) Foundation presented Campbell Law’s Senior Law Clinic (SLC) with a $1,000 gift on Thursday, Aug. 14. The gift, which will be used for a special advocacy needs fund, is the second such offering from the NCBA to the clinic.
The NCBA presented the gift in front of Campbell Law’s first-year class following a morning-long community service event at six locations throughout Raleigh.

Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard accepted the gift from NCBA Latino Affairs Committee Chair Denisse Gonzalez, NCBA President-Elect Shelby Benton, NCBA Director of Pro Bono & Public Service Activities Mary Horowitz, and NCBA Executive Director Allan Head. Gonzalez (L ’11) and Benton (L ’85) are both Campbell Law graduates.
“We are very thankful for this gift from the NCBA,” said SLC Director Roger Manus. “These funds will allow us to handle unusual expenses incurred during some of our cases, such as translator fees and litigation expenses. This will allow us to better serve members of the community whose primary language is not English, and it will also help us to level the playing field in those cases where litigation is necessary and the issues are not routine.”
The SLC provides Campbell Law students with an opportunity to acquire and refine practical skills that will help pave the way for future practice in a variety of areas. By representing older adults with modest incomes in civil matters SLC students build skills that create prepared, well-rounded lawyers in all areas of the law.
