Service Animal Project to launch in spring

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law will launch the Service Animal Workshop, its 13th pro bono service project, in partnership with Disability Rights N.C. during the spring 2017 academic semester. The project provides law students with an opportunity to learn about disability laws surrounding service animals and to provide workshops to local organizations and government entities on how best to accommodate service animal users, while also minimizing their own risks arising out of the presence of a service animal.

The project was in large part inspired by several Campbell Law students with vision issues that attend class on a daily basis with the assistance of service animals.

“I am so proud of the work of the student led Pro Bono Council and their efforts to create diverse opportunities for students to engage in pro bono service,” said Campbell Law Director of Student Life & Pro Bono Opportunities Beth Froehling. “This project is an excellent example of partnering with the community to provide a needed service, while also educating students on important issues in the legal field.”

In addition to the Service Animal Project, Campbell Law’s robust service opportunities include 12 more options, including but not limited to issues regarding actual innocence, teen court, domestic violence, election protection, naturalization, veterans, income tax assistance and wills and advance directives.
