Sharon Boyd receives 2023 Dean’s Award for Excellence

Sharon Boyd, the nursing instructor and student success coordinator with the Catherine W. Wood School of Nursing, received the 2023 CPHS Dean’s Award for Excellence. Dr. Stacy Wise, chair and director of the nursing school, excitedly nominated Boyd for the award. “For her to be chosen out of all of CPHS means that others recognize in her the qualities I see. It makes me so happy to see her character respected and her hard work appreciated. I love my nursing faculty,” Wise shared.

Boyd received her Master of Science in Nursing from UNC Wilmington and is currently in a Ph.D. program at East Carolina University. She is also a certified nurse educator and a certified medical-surgical registered nurse. Boyd joined the Campbell faculty in 2019 as an adjunct clinical nursing instructor and made the move to full-time faculty in 2021 as an instructor of nursing and the student success coordinator.

“I was drawn to Campbell’s Nursing program in 2019 after meeting and working with a new graduate from its inaugural class of 2018,” said Boyd. “This graduate represented the program well as they impressed me with their advanced knowledge and skill. Additionally, the Campbell mission resonates with my professional values to ‘graduate students with exemplary academic and professional skills who are prepared for purposeful lives and meaningful service’ with an emphasis on serving rural and underserved populations.”

A beloved instructor, students describe her as a fair and friendly, yet firm faculty member who holds them to a high standard. She is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and incorporates fun into her teaching sessions.

“I am proud to be a part of CPHS

and invest in the next generation of nurses.”

“Sharon has amazed me with her ability and willingness to teach and direct many courses including Informatics, health assessment, and nursing research, all while taking on clinical assignments and helping to remediate students who are struggling. She utilizes creative active learning techniques in the classroom and in her study sessions. Students adore her and learn so much from her,” Wise remarked.

An extraordinary teacher and outstanding role model to faculty and students, Boyd has excelled in her first two years as a full-time nursing faculty member, all while pursuing her Ph.D. and serving her church and community.  She is a wonderful example of the qualities recognized by the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.

“It is an honor to receive this award and be acknowledged for my dedication to teaching. I truly work with an amazing team that I learn from every day. I am proud to be a part of CPHS and invest in the next generation of nurses,” Boyd commented.
