BUIES CREEK – Nine students in Campbell University’s Department of Social Work were inducted into the Phi Alpha Honor Society on Monday, Feb. 18, in Taylor Hall.
The nine students join seven other current students in Campbell’s School of Education to comprise the Eta Kappa chapter of Phi Alpha, the highest academic honorary society for social work majors.
During the annual induction ceremony, Eugene Sumner, chair of Campbell’s Department of Social Work, called the members of Phi Alpha “our best and brightest.”
“You have shown you are our brightest by the achievements you have made academically, and you have shown that you are our best because of the vocation and career and profession you have chosen,” Sumner said. “Social work requires knowledge, skill and heart; and you have indicated that you are committed to all three of those.”
In order to become a member of Phi Alpha, students must be majors in social work who have reached at least sophomore status and completed a minimum of nine semester hours of courses in the discipline. They must also achieve an overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.25 GPA in their required social work courses.
The nine students inducted into Phi Alpha on Monday were as follows:

Brittney Schwitz of Broadway, N.C.
The seven other current members of the honor society are Crystal Byfield, Chanté Clark, Emma Crawford, Linley Foster, Ashleigh Glover, Amber Johnson and Stacey Marshburn Wooten.
Since the Eta Kappa chapter of Phi Alpha was established at Campbell in 1998, 81 students and eight honorary members have been inducted into the honor society.
