Buies Creek, N.C.-Southern poet and author Dr. Nancy Dew Taylor will read works from her new book of poems, “Stepping on Air,” in celebration of National Poetry Month at Campbell University. Sponsored by Campbell’s annual literary publication, “The Lyricist,” the reading will be held Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in Carrie Rich Memorial Library. Admission is free and open to the public.
A widely published author and poet, Taylor’s poems and short stories have appeared in numerous literary magazines, including “Kalliope,” “Appalachian Journal,” “Scribble,” the “South Carolina Review,” the “Timber Creek Review,” the “New England Watershed” and “Tar River Poetry.”
Taylor is a graduate of Furman University and received a Master of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. A long time educator, Taylor taught English at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, the University of Puerto Rico, the University of South Carolina and Lander University. After leaving the college campus setting, she served as a medical editor and teacher of medical ethics and medical humanities in the Greenville, S.C. hospital system.
Following the reading, copies of Taylor’s new book will be available for purchase and autographing by the author. Taylor serves as the 2009 statewide poetry judge for “The Lyricist.”
