RALEIGH, N.C. – Second-year student Fiona Steer was named the recipient of the Anglin Law Award at Campbell Law’s 37th annual Law Day Banquet on Saturday, March 22. A native of Raleigh, Steer is the inaugural recipient of the $2,000 award.
The Anglin Law Award, established by Christopher J. Anglin of the Anglin Law Firm, recognizes a second-year Campbell Law student with a strong academic record, leadership in student organizations and pro activities and contributions to the community. Applicants must possess a strong academic record with preference given to students that participate in one or more student organizations, serve in a leadership role, participate in the advocacy program and/or student publications, exhibit outstanding academic performance and leadership and take part in pro bono activities.
“I am honored to have received the Anglin Law Award,” said Steer. “By sponsoring this award, Mr. Anglin sets an example of one way in which young attorneys can give back to their communities. I am proud Mr. Anglin has chosen to bring this award to Campbell Law School.”
In addition to a strong academic record, Steer has been actively engaged with numerous student organizations and pro bono opportunities at Campbell Law. She was a member of the undefeated 2013 Carolinas Invitational Mock Trial Competition team, collecting the Excellent Trial Advocacy Skills Award. Steer has volunteered as a coach for Girls on the Run of the Triangle and recently served as a legal extern with the Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program. Following her externship she co-facilitated the creation of the Child Placement Appeals Project for the Campbell Law Pro Bono Council.
“I chose Campbell Law for the award because of the emphasis which the school places on having students who are well rounded, including being active in their community and training them to be leaders once they graduate,” said Anglin. “Fiona Steer exemplifies all of these qualities and I firmly believe that she will make a major impact both in the practice of law and in her community once she graduates from Campbell.
