Buies Creek, N.C. – Dr. Jutta Street, associate professor of psychology, received the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching award from Campbell University’s School of Education in April.
“A native of Germany, Street understands the difficulties students face as they move away from home and experience new adventures,” said Dr. Karen Nery, dean of the School of Education. “Her expectations for students are high. She isn’t willing to accept just passable work, but demands that students always do their best.”
Street, who resides in Raleigh, N.C., doesn’t just connect with students in the classroom, Nery said. She also supports them in extracurricular activities including the Psychology Club and the psychology honor society Psi Chi. Each year, Street takes students to regional, state and national conferences to present their own research and compete in academic competition. The experience not only helps students develop their own leadership skills but prepares them for graduate school.
Prior to coming to Campbell, Street taught at Barton College, North Carolina State University, Meredith College and Pfeiffer University. She also served as a teacher at the U.S. Army Education Center in Germany and the U.S. Army Language School at Ft. Liberty. Street received her undergraduate degree from Pembroke State University and a master’s degree in experimental psychology and a Ph.D. in developmental psychology from North Carolina State University.
